A frequently asked question, especially by those who have not had a massage before is, “What massage treatment length should I book?”
The answer depends on many factors, such as your goals, ailments, preferences, the time you have available, and even what your finances or benefits allow.
What Can Reasonably Fit Into Each Massage Treatment Length
45 Minutes
This length is ideal for follow up treatments or quick relief for specific areas of concern.
I do not recommend this treatment length for a full body massage. The time feels very rushed as there is literally only 2-3 minutes that can be spent on each area without any opportunity to focus as needed.
Please note that this treatment length is also not ideal for new clients. First time intakes (the “interview” portion of a massage treatment) typically require more time in order to ask questions, perform an assessment and formulate a treatment plan.
60 Minutes
The “standard” treatment length which allows for a comprehensive full body massage or for targeted areas such as the upper body, or lower body.
75 Minutes
Probably my favourite treatment length as it provides enough time to do a full body massage with attention to specific trouble spots.
90 Minutes
Everyone’s favourite for a truly restorative experience! This massage treatment length is perfect for a full body with ample time for more specific therapeutic goals.
To Summarize
In my studio I offer these four massage treatment lengths. For all new clients, I highly recommend booking a minimum of 60 minutes as that will allow a thorough intake and assessment while allowing a sufficient amount of hands on time.
One of my most popular treatments is the 90 minute combination of my lymphatic face and buccal massage with some time dedicated for a Swedish massage of a targeted area. It's the best of both worlds!
Generally speaking, the longer the session the more time can be spent on problem areas and can allow for more deeper relaxation.
